Carmen takes the well-known opera as a jumping-off point and presents an all-Latinx cast performing a devised theatre piece exploring borders, survival, gender, and love. Set in El Paso, queer night life clashes with ICE raids as we use telenovela tropes to reinvent the tale of passion, jealousy, and familia. In a time of #dreamers, #borderwall and #metoo, Carmen seeks to find both resistance and humor in chaotic times.

“…[D]on’t assume you know this Carmen. She won’t be following a script someone else penned. She may tempt you. She may save you. She may slap the shit out of you. See, this Carmen doesn’t play by anybody’s rules but her own.”
Robert Faires, review of Carmen for the Austin Chronicle
